About manuscripts
What does one mean by the word 'manuscript'? On this page you will be able to get a sense of what a manuscript looks like by looking at our digitised manuscripts, which attempt to recreate the impression of turning the pages in a manuscript. You can also get an introduction to the chronological development of written culture by looking at the timeline. In the glossary, you will find the basic words used in the study of manuscripts.
Memory of the World
Memory of the World is UNESCO's register of invaluable written or audiovisual cultural heritage. In 2009, the Arnamagæan manuscript collection was included in this list.
Transfer to Iceland
Between the years 1971 and 1997, the Icelandic manuscripts in Denmark were sent back to Iceland. Read here an article in Kristeligt Dagblad (in Danish) on the manuscript collection's inclusion in the MoW list and the return of the manuscripts.
